Women Changing Transportation: The Conversations

The Women Changing Transportation program is pleased to present the second installment of videos from our conversation series.

We launched the WCT program with the intention of creating a supportive community for women and femmes in the field – a place where women could could not only vent, but also build community and work collectively to address the impacts of white cis-male decision-making in the field.

Women typically face an uphill battle when it comes to carving out space for themselves in the transit/transportation landscape. This battle is particularly acute when it comes to leadership. The field struggles to hire, retain and promote women to leadership positions. There are a myriad of reasons why this happens, but the clear, self fulfilling prophecy here is that women often feel as though they don’t have mentors or others who look like them in the workforce that create the space for them to rise through the ranks.

In the videos below, members of the cohort touch specifically on the ways in which their identity as women shows up in the field – often in context of being underestimated or undermined in spaces they share with men, and how they utilize these experiences to fuel their commitment to the work of improving transit and the transit space.
