Advocates and Bus Drivers Agree: Bus Lanes are for the Buses

The Transport Workers Union Local 100 recently conducted a survey with 400 of its New York City bus operators to find out more about their working conditions. Their number one frustration on the job? Blocked bus lanes.

TransitCenter and the Bus Turnaround Coalition have long been advocating for better enforcement of bus lanes, so we are thrilled to partner with TWU to raise awareness of this critical but often overlooked issue. Far too many cars, delivery trucks, and government vehicles are using bus lanes as places to park, slowing down bus trips for millions of New Yorkers. The MTA runs the buses, but it’s city government that plans and needs to manage the bus lanes.

Mayor De Blasio, it’s time to step up enforcement.
