The Legacy of Racism in Transit: How We Got Here and What to Do About It
American transit agencies trace their origins to the era of white flight from cities. The legacy of segregation and discrimination still manifests today. In general, white riders benefit from better amenities and service quality -- and less intrusive policing -- than Black and brown riders. To provide better transit for everyone, we have to understand these disparities and enact deliberate policies to eliminate them.
