Queue Jump Chronicles – M96 Edition
Some queue jumps are better than others!
Queue jump lanes prioritize moving a larger number of people through intersections. Giving buses a head start can significantly improve bus performance by routing vehicles through congested intersections ahead of traffic.
Applied thoughtfully, queue jump treatments can reduce delay considerably, resulting in run-time savings and increased reliability.
The queue jump on 97th and Madison in Manhattan, installed by the New York City Department of Transportation, is the first of its kind in New York City.
Along with Transit Signal Priority, an increase in the number of queue jumps across the city is among the recommendations of the Bus Turnaround Coalition, a diverse group of New Yorkers working to get our buses moving again.
