The Misuse of Level of Service and How Cities Should Use Performance Measures to Advance Multimodal Transportation
Confessions of Traffic Engineer Peter Koonce
Our communities are changing. Our growing populations, evolving technology, and climate concerns all call for a shift in the measures we are using to assess the success of our urban streets. Yet, the primary measure used for assessing adequacy of the transportation system has not changed since the 1980s. This talk will highlight this conflict and describe a myriad of paths forward to respond to the shift the transportation community should make to more fully embrace multimodal transportation.
Peter Koonce, Traffic Engineer with the City of Portland, joined TransitCenter to discuss these conversations over lunch.
