Bus Lanes Are Essential: Speeding Transit During COVID

Click here for a recording of the event

As cities emerge from COVID-19 shutdowns, car traffic is rising faster than transit ridership. But ridership on buses has remained high throughout the pandemic, reflecting the fact that essential workers are more likely to travel by bus than other transit modes.

In recognition that traffic congestion threatens to make bus trips even slower and less reliable, transportation departments in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco have accelerated plans for transit priority streets. Join TransitCenter for a conversation with agency staff and advocates from these cities to discuss how to create institutional urgency, overcome implementation and communication challenges, and transform temporary changes into lasting benefits.

Panelists:

Kristiana Lachiusa, Community Engagement Manager, LivableStreets Alliance (Boston)

Michael Rhodes, Transit Priority Team Lead, SFMTA

Maulik Vaishnav, Transportation Policy Advisor, Office of the Mayor, City of Chicago

Moderator:

Hayley Richardson, Senior Communications Associate, TransitCenter
