A Lunch Conversation with Alexander Karner
Assistant Professor, School of City & Regional Planning, Georgia Institute of Technology
Creating just and equitable transportation systems requires both quantitative assessments and strong advocates pushing for change. In this talk, Dr. Karner will present some of his recent work in these two areas, including research on public transit service equity using GTFS-realtime data and a qualitative investigation into the 2014 expansion of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) into Clayton County. The Clayton case vividly demonstrates the dangers of relying on quantitative analyses alone and illustrates the potential for transportation equity advocates to effect meaningful change.
