Make Maps with Open Transit Data

A Workshop

This hands-on workshop introduces how to use open transit data to make maps. Ray Cha, of The Nature of Cities, will walk us through the first of 10 modules in the Open Transit Data Toolkit, a project funded by TransitCenter to help advocates, agency staff, board members, and concerned citizens transform transit data into useful knowledge.

We’ll walk through a simple example looking at the locations of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) rapid transit stations and the reliability of the service. Other sources of transit data, including New York’s MTA, will be introduced. The workshop includes finding and preparing the data for analysis.

Beginners are encouraged to join! This is a workshop where attendees will follow along.
